[Maybe Allen was expecting a counterargument- or wasn't expecting anything at all during his panic. But he didn't expect Clay to take his hand and start rubbing circles on his back as he told him to breathe. He seems to be stupefied for a moment, before he finally starts to following Clay's lead. Slow breath in, slow breath out.]
[And oddly? It seems to be working after a bit. His body language seems to start to relax, and he seems to be calming down, little by little.]
[Keep it short and simple, keep breathing like this. And it's a relief to see that it's actually working, that he's actually calming down a little bit. Clay doesn't stop until Allen's breathing seems to be more normal, and it's only until then that he leans his head back a little to look at him properly.]
[Clay gives a big smile after that, relieved and honestly kind of proud. He gives Allen a kiss on the forehead, then pulls back, letting his hand slide from Allen's back down to his bicep before he pulls that away too.]
Stellar! You did good there, all right?
[He recovered, and that's enough for him.]
But, you know... terrible things could happen to me even if I'm not with you. That's life. Sometimes bad things can happen to the best of us, but that doesn't mean we should never enjoy the good things because we fear what could happen. It might not happen. That's life, too.
Whatever happens, I'd like to be with you for it, if that means anything for you.
[Allen's quiet for a moment. It's true, he can't really argue against those points. It was...easy, to associate his own bad luck with the misfortunes of those he cared about. With how often things went wrong, it was easy enough to do...even if it wasn't entirely true. And he had a point...enjoying the good things while he could was how he survived Paradisa. Enjoy the quiet times, were the usual mindset of people. And he really did enjoy his time with Clay. It's been a long time since he's felt so happy.]
No, it does, but...
[ It meant a lot. Still, the insecurities gnawed inside him. He swallows, trying to find the words without panicking this time ]
...I don't have the best past, Clay. My life has a tendency to be dangerous. It's been peaceful in the fleet, but I can't always guarantee it'd stay that way. And... [He hesitates before speaking. But well, he might as well know] Remember that anonymous person you spoke to - about possessions? Well...that was me. I was the one you were talking to.
[He'll look at Clay finally]
Are you sure you'd like to be with me for whatever happens?
[It does take him a moment to process that, to remember the conversation he had and attach Allen's face as the identity of the person he was speaking to, and the implications of it. So he's being possessed by a demon? It seems surreal. Ironic, really. An exorcist with a demon inside him. He kind of feels like laughing about it, and he would, if that wasn't the time nor the place for it.
Honestly, for Clay, this is just one more notch in the wall of all the weird things he's encountered in this place. Vampires? Check. Talking ponies? Check. An exorcist with a demon inside him who has a shape-shifting arm for a weapon and could maybe be his boyfriend in the next few minutes? Check.
So he nods, reaching out to take Allen's red hand in his own, and gives a half playful smile.]
I'm absolutely, 100% sure I'd like to be with you for whatever happens.
[Yeah it's...probably good that he didn't laugh about it. He watches Clay, trying to gauge his reaction as he processes it all, feeling those insecurities gnaw further]
[At least until...Clay takes that hand of his, and smiles at him. There wasn't any examining, no list of questions about his problems. Just...acceptance and affection.]
[He has to duck his head a little and give a small quiet laugh, despite himself]
[With his free hand, Clay reaches out to cup Allen's cheek, feeling all sorts of fluttery feelings just waiting to burst out. All it really takes is just one more thing for that to happen, or for them to die off a little.]
[He looks back up at Clay when he cups his cheek. He's still...a little scared, but he'll still smile at him when he hears that name.]
Yes. Yes, we are dating.
[Sure, there were still fears, and nerves. But...it's like he said, that's just part of life, isn't it? If Clay was willing to put up with all those things then...who was he to reject someone he cared so much for?]
[Boom, there goes the dam that was holding back all those fluttery feelings. The smile on his face spreads into a big, happy grin, and he bounces in his place a couple of times before he leans in to kiss Allen on the lips, then pulls back to jump to his feet, fists punching at the air.]
[Holy shit that's quite a reaction. No one he's ever gone out with reacted with THAT much enthusiasm. Though with how happy he's feeling right now? It's making him laugh and wave his hands as if to try to get him to settle down a little]
[And with Allen piping up, Clay goes ahead and puts his hands at his sides to easily lift him off the floor and up in the air for a spin or two, then lowers him down for a tight, enthusiastic embrace, though Allen will find that his feet are still off the floor with Clay holding him up.]
[He wasn't expecting to get picked up off the floor and spun around like that. Damn Clay you're strong. But he recovers quick enough, laughing as he wraps his arms around his neck for support as he keeps his feet up]
Yes! We're dating!

[Yeah... Yeah this is the guy who can lift up two grown men with one arm, HE'S PRETTY STRONG. He laughs in response, bright and happy, resisting the urge to just spin again because he's still got his arms full of Allen and all.]
I really, really like you.
[And with that, he leans his head up to kiss him, still enthusiastically, but longer than the one he initially gave him. He can't help it - he's just so happy.]
[He'll return the kiss enthusiastically as well. When it breaks, his smile is bright when he looks at Clay. It was hard not to give such an expression. Even if he wasn't extremely happy himself, Clay's excitement was practically infectious.]
I really, really like you too.
[He moves to rest his forehead against Clay's as he keeps embracing the other tightly (though he'll put his feet down). This was really happening. It was truly, really happening]
[With Allen's feet moving down, that's Clay's cue to lower him to the floor as well, shutting his eyes when he feels his... his boyfriend's(??)... forehead resting against his own, holding on just as tightly. It really was happening, and in that moment, Clay can feel himself start to (metaphorically) be pulled back down to Earth, his connection with Allen letting him live in the moment right there with him, rather than go bouncing off like a hyperactive puppy. He still has a bright grin on his face, but he feels a little calmer. It's one of the things he's been looking for.]
[While Clay felt himself get pulled back to Earth, Allen felt lighter than he had in years. With Clay, it was easier to put those worries and weight that had been weighing him down aside. He could feel his fears ebbing away from Clay's arms around him, his nerves getting calmer. To be there in the moment, instead of stuck in the past or possible futures that had not yet come to pass. What mattered that he was here now with Clay, his...his boyfriend, with a smile as bright as the other's on his face. He hadn't thought he'd been looking, but he certainly had the feeling that he's found something at long last.]
