[He catches that emphasis on the "only" there, the way he phrased that sentence. As if there should have been someone else there- but they weren't for some reason. A reason that Clay wasn't okay with. Which...it wasn't hard to guess who that might be, just from process of elimination]

[But he won't touch on that. Not now. Clay sounds alright talking about his mom, even with Allen's concerns of Atroma...so he'll focus on that.]

That can't have been easy...

[The single parent life was not an easy one. He knew that much. ]

Was she a lot like you?

Mmhmmm.

[He shuts his eyes, soaking in the warmth of his boyfriend's body against his own, the love and comfort he feels from it.]

She was really kind and compassionate, but also shy and quiet. She wanted to go to space as much as I did, but a lot of things made her back down from it. Still, she did her best to live life to the fullest. [He smiles a little, the thoughts making him a bit melancholy. But, like Allen, Clay's had a lot of time to let the memories not hurt as much as they did.] She's the one who told me to always be honest. She'd say that no good ever come from lies, that they'd only make a wedge between you and the people you care about that grows until it's like a black hole.

[oh- Black hole! He read about that one! He knows that analogy!] So...an object or region with such a high gravitational pull, not even light can escape it. [SEE??] Yeah...that's a fitting way to put it.

[He's had to learn the hard way, what lies can do to you and the people around you. It's why he's tried to be so honest in this relationship.]

But she does sound a lot like you. [The kindness, the compassion, the space fixation. Even the shyness] I think I would've liked meeting her a lot.

[His hold tightens around Allen at that, and he can't help giving a big grin. Wow, he actually knows about that without Clay having to explain it; he really can't describe the amount of joy that makes him feel, so he tries to express it by the way he holds Allen and how he responds, with that happy tone to his voice.]

Yeah, that's exactly it! You got it!

[But... well, they are talking about his mom, not space.]

She'd like you a lot, I think. And? She'd feed you. She taught me how to cook and provide for myself, since she couldn't be around as much as she wanted to. But she was a really good cook. It was almost one of her other passions in life.

[oh, that reaction makes it completely worth it. He grins back. proudly]

Ha- I did some reading while I was um- under quarantine?

[Not exactly what it was, but close enough. But he makes a little whine sound at the next part]

Ahhh- that makes me sad I can't try her cooking! [WHY WOULD YOU TELL ME THAT] If she's the one to teach you, she must've been really good!

[He laughs quietly at that; it's easier to talk when there's some humor involved.]

Oh man, she was. When she had time to cook a big dinner, it was the best. She once made an entire Thanksgiving meal on her own! I mean, I helped her a little bit, but she did most of the work!

Mmm...Thanksgiving, I love that holiday...! [Sure he's British, but it's an entire holiday about food!!]

I don't suppose you remember any of her recipes...?

You would love that holiday. [He says while leaning in to affectionately bump his nose against Allen's.]

I actually do. She was Korean, so a lot of her food was based on that style, but she cooked with a lot of Western influences too. I'll have to cook one of them for you sometime, when we find a planet with good ingredients!

[He gives a little laugh with the nose bump. Yeah...he guess it really is no surprised he'd love Thanksgiving.]

[But Korean huh? How about that. He makes a mental note to remember that- he knew so many Japanese and Chinese people, he had kinda assumed... Oh well. At least he never vocalized it.]

I'll look forward to that! I've never had Korean food before! [And he sure did love eating new foods] I'd offer to cook you something in return, but Ino's the only decent cook in my family. [And Belthazar maybe, if he counted]

Nah, it's fine! I like cooking, especially when people like what I make.

[Like making the dango, and seeing Allen's reaction to it. That had been a huge highlight on that date.]

So that's Thai and Korean food you haven't tried. I'm going to have a field day making dishes for you to try!

Well good! Because I really like your cooking!

[It was some of Allen's favorite in the fleet. Sure, Belthazar was easily the most skilled chef, he could admit that. But man, there was nothing like having a meal cooked special for you out of love]

Mm! And I'll have a field day eating them, I'm sure! [Food *^* ] And sometime I'd really like to have that pineapple curry dish again too.
