[The walk to the hotel went without incident. All along the way, the activity from the ball echoed in the streets - it was clear that the party was still going strong, and would be for quite some time. The natives were quite determined to wear themselves out before the Gravity Rush, after all]
[It's only when they reach the hotel room and shut the door, does the echoes of the music and voices finally shut out completely- leaving them only with the sound of the two of them. Which in a way, seemed to be a relief to Allen, as he lets out a large happy sigh as he starts immediately kicking off his boots]
Ah...I think I've had my fill of masquerades for the next couple years.
[Dancing with Clay had been worth going, but...honestly, the rest of it? Still very much not his thing]
[Clay's more than relieved as well. He doesn't like settings like that anyway; too crowded, too stressful - but he made Allen happy by dancing, even if it wasn't the style he liked, and that was worth it. Still, he walks to the bed and drops face first onto it, legs hanging off the bed at the knees while he groans into the sheets.]
Mmmah. [Or in face-against-the-bed speak, "yeah".]
[Well that sure is a reaction. Allen seems amused by it, picking up the bag that Clay had carried along and bringing it over to the bed so he can pull out Clay's hat and lay it carefully on top of Clay's head. Here you go, have your hat back]
[Hat. Yes. Good hat. Clay reaches up to touch it at first, then turns over onto his back, lifting up his head to get that hat back to its rightful place. Yes.]
Dancing with you was the fun part. [Clay flips open the bag, showing all the food inside. There you go, Allen, eat up if you want.] Being in a crowd like that wears me out.
[He had, at first, chuckled about the hangover cure. As long as Allen isn't trying to monopolize his own crew, then Clay approves. It's a funny thought, at least.
Oh... [He leans back against the headboard, thinking back on the conversation] Essentially, he thinks the people here don't care about nature and they just focus their attention on entertainment rather than trying to help the moon.
[Clay purses his lips at that. Jeez, way to throw an entire population under a bus, Mik.]
Hmm, well... he is pretty in tune with water. I can see why he'd be mad.
[He scoots back a bit, kicking off his shoes as he does so, to rest his head against Allen's lower thigh (just so that crumbs won't land on his face) and look up at him.]
But he does know that these people probably don't know how to fix the problem, right? I'm pretty sure the entertainment is to keep morale about living in a place like this up.
[he meanwhile scoots his leg a little so Clay can be more comfortable, resting on that thigh]
I think he knows, but he doesn't...fully understand what that entails. [A systemic problem like this was no easy fix, after all. And Allen has no doubt these people would've enacted a solution if they could find a feasible one] I can understand his point some, but...I'm not sure he understands humans all that well. It probably comes from not being able to directly interact with most of them.
It's hard to understand something when it doesn't give you the feedback you want.
[Like most things in space. Astronomers can only make guesses and approximations based on theories and equations until they can create the tools needed to understand it. And sometimes, it takes some feedback from space itself in order for astronomers to get the push they need to make those tools.]
But people are people. They can't spend every waking hour working on something that could take beyond their lifetime to repair; they'd never be happy if they did that. They'd resent this place even more, or...
[Or just... not want to live like that anymore, but that's kind of dark.]
I have a lot of hope for them. They do want this place fixed, and I'm sure once they knew the cause of it and how to fix it, so long as it doesn't make this place worse, they'd work towards that. That's why I'm working so hard to figure out a solution. Yeah, I want to see nature get better, but I also want the people here to have more fulfilling lives, too. No more gas masks, no more filtering, just... being able to live.
[He places a hand on Clay's shoulder. He knows that Clay believes in these people, that he wants to help them. It's very much how Allen felt about this too.]
I don't think we should fret too much about what Mikleo is saying. His heart is going out to what's in front of him, and that's the water and the nature. Meanwhile our human hearts are going out to the humans first. Neither is wrong, but.... I think right now it's easier for him to deal with the pain by laying blame towards the group he doesn't understand as well.
The truth is, if we help the people, we help the nature. It's the same problem, in the end. Both of them need each other, after all. [Maybe it'd be different on Earth, but the nature here wouldn't even have existed if it weren't for the terrforming in the first place]
I just hope Mikleo's careful and makes sure to take cares of himself.

Ah, I think I know what you mean. I think most of the fleet went.

[Clay reaches into the bag without looking, pulling out - oh, some meat. Gonna chow down on that, too.]
It's nice, having a little change and getting to relax some.

[Sigh. Having a labmate with ethics is hard sometimes. But whatever, onto some more fruit]
It is. I mean, Mikleo was mad about it...but I think the fleet needed the break.
Action
But Mikleo... He frowns a little at that.]
Really? Why would Mikleo be mad?
